NHL Review (18/12/14) – Kings, Sharks, Ducks, Flyers and Capitals Put up Thrillers while Hurricanes end Maple Leafs Winning Run

St Louis Blues Vs. Los Angles Kings (4-6) – Ten goals scored in this thriller as this would be a showdown with two strong teams hunting the play-offs.

First Goal  (Blues) – Kings concede with seven minutes past, from assist by Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangle

Second Goal (Blues) – Another goal for the Blues putting LA under pressure. Only a minute later Jaskin takes the second via a triple assist build.

Third Goal (Blues) – 3-0 to the Blues and the Kings are getting blown away at this early point, this time being hit by another rocket of a puck from the left of the Kings. The Blues having the power play advantage when scoring, blasting the NHL Champions in the first period.

Fourth Goal (Kings) – Kings first goal of the evening nearing the end of the first period, an easy follow up goal for the Kings after a failed clearance of the puck from a previous strike. Like a predator, Kings player took on the puck and the goal, giving the reigning Champions sometime before the second intermission.

Fifth Goal  (Kings) – Kings entered the second quarter in just score and its game on, they so did in a grand build up in the central area the St Louise defensive area. Player with puck in possession strikes while under pressure to put the Kings second in and liven up the whole match up. A sniper shot that culls the Puck slightly straight into the middle left hand corner of the net.

Sixth Goal (Kings) – 3-3 and showing the stuff of champions are about, from another build up, the kings player in puck at distance performed a heavyweight shot. Only to fail but a awaiting LA player would take on the follow up and succeed in drawing the game at three all ! Kings made the Blues pay via a power play advantage.

Seventh Goal (Blues) – Blue race up a built up against the LA defence and mid way strikes and scores against for the Blues fourth goal and gaining back the lead. A thunderous strike by the St Louis player, this would happen a minute later, so much happening in one go.

Eighth Goal (Kings) – Another fight back by LA, four all the score both teams defence on a bad day while its the opposite for the attackers. LA crowd well into this heavyweight match up that will be remembered for a while.

Ninth Goal (Kings) – Kings take the lead for the first time tonight, the Champions smelling blood in this build up. Where the King moved in the left side with most of the players in the goal area, sniping a shot at the Blues goalie when pressing a second further to strike into the top centre of the net. Like shot at the heart, King where leading !

Tenth Goal (Kings) – The nail in the coffin for the Kings, from a unable strike from half way though the goalie legs to finish off the Blues. A rocketing goal and as straight forward strike you could get.

St Louis left with what might have been in this one, having been in the lead twice but Champions for a reason; the Kings showed their worth in front of a home crowd. A highly entertaining match up with two teams not afraid to score and ending an insane match up leaving my jaw on the ground. Kings looked down and out on the score lines but never changed their thought process from not giving in showing in how to finish a match and getting one over a possible play-off contender out of the St Louise Blues.

Edmonton Oilers Vs. San Jose Sharks (3-4) – Sharks enter this one with intend of extending their play off chances in 2015 against a Oilers side that has had a difficult season so far plus having a already good record over Edmonton. The Oilers last win was against the Sharks.

First Goal (Oilers) – First blood for the Oilers, having a early build up to take on the puck on the right side of the ice, Puck in possession and with a back hand strike straight though the legs of the goalie. Edmonton have the early advantage.

Second Goal (Shark) – Sharks bite back early in the second period, Sharks in puck possession has the simple task in striking the puck at the net via the central position. Oilers left too much space and time in this attack.

Third Goal (Sharks) – Having a clear up build up where the Oilers left to suffer another clean strike straight the goalie at distance, there could have more to done in avoiding this goal. quality strike by the Sharks!!

Fourth Goal (Oilers) – Edmonton fight back to equal the match at two all. Strapping what they have to score from a failed build up pass from right to left until becoming a free for all that went the Oilers favour. A goal is goal

Fifth Goal (Oilers) – Sharks stunned by this fight back where from the left of San Jose ice, puck in possession is passed to the left could have been intercepted but gets caught by a Oilers player to take the lead for the second time.

Sixth Goal (Sharks) – Third Period and straight up race up between two player, Sharks on the right side while the Oilers player fails to keep up giving enough time for the Sharks player to strike and for the second time straight though the goalie.

Seventh Goal (Sharks) – Amazing one on one attempt as this would be the winner for the Sharks, clear pass from the Sharks half where praying San Jose player takes on the puck and coolly put it away for 4-3!

Amazing match up between the two as Edmonton get nothing back in this one despite a brave effort. The Sharks gain their advantage over Edmonton once again. With 20 point difference in the pacific division and the Oiler lay rock bottom with 7-20-6 record so far. San Jose stay in second in the Pacific division and the Wild Card hunt where only the Duck have the upper hand.

Anaheim Ducks Vs. Montreal Canadians (2-1): This would be a big match up for the away Ducks who lead the NHL overall division so far. Having the up held task for the Montreal Canadians home crowd which is a difficult task for many.

First Goal (Ducks) – A total rocket shot by the Ducks attack, no chance in saving that shot via the right side though the goalies legs. Ducks take on the early in the first period.

Second Goal (Canadians) – A one timer shot straight into the Ducks net, having the Anaheim’s goalie have had a amazing game so far but this was a well earned goal that was coming. Puck in possession by the Canadians and passes right straight to the awaiting player to blast it straight away for the equalizer. Taking place 30 seconds into the third period.

Third Goal (Ducks) – Another one time shot but a very close range, three minutes after Montreal’s goal. This would build closely where the ducks play on the right would pass towards the nearest player at goal to strike to regain the lead.

Another hard done win for the Ducks as they stay on top of the overall league, Montreal still in the hunt for the play off spot and in a strong position to achieve that still having being unlucky by a strong Anaheim side.  Having the Ducks goalie had a fab performance, it was a tight game between two good sides.

Colorado Avalanche Vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (0-1): This would be a tough match for the Avalanche who have a tough season so far while Pittsburgh aim to keep pace with Anaheim for the over NHL division.

First Goal (Penguins via overtime) – Someone had to break and it would be Colorado’s turn in a brave effort keeping the Penguins at by. It would be a simple build up but  follow up from failed strike. The puck would move to the left before the Pittsburgh player takes on the puck to take the win from a monument of opportunity.

Colorado lose and get shutout by the home bond Penguins who extend their lead on the Metropolitan division of the Eastern conference while Colorado stay bottom of their central division the Western Conference only trailing by a point behind the Dallas Stars. Penguins position the league is second and well in for the play offs at their record so far, only 3 points trailing the Anaheim Duck who this evening as well.  Colorado aim to pick up the pace again against the Buffalo Sabres this Saturday who are dead locked on 28 points where 2 sides are struggling this season.

Washington Capitals Vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (5-4) – A thriller made in its self, full of goals and fights.

First Goal (Capitals) – An early goal executed by Washington, Blue Jackets trail.

Second Goal  (Capitals) – Two goal advantage for the capitals,  Quick build up near the net where a Capitals player receiving the puck on the near left before quickly moving the right to awaiting Capitals player. Simple touch of the puck for the second goal, Washington in control of period one.

Third Goal (Blue Jackets) – Lead is cut in two, The blue Jackets bring the fight into the second period and moving to right side of the Capitals ice before passing forwards the left forwards at the goal for a closer shot at goal. Blue Jackets players awaited to gain the goal from a simple pass in the net.

Fourth Goal (Blue Jackets) – Come back complete, Columbus level at two all; quickly reflexes from the Blue Jackets player after a fail long shot bounces off the Washington goalie. The puck moving towards the one player to put the puck in the Capitals net for the second time, which levels the match up.

Fifth Goal (Blue Jackets) – Capitals shocked by Columbus fight back to be trailing 3-2, Another line up goal by the Blue Jackets. Puck in possession from the left side of the with an awaiting player very close to the Capitals net. Clear pass straight to the Hawking player to slide the puck straight into the net for the Blue Jackets Lead.

Sixth Goal (Capitals) – Shacking off the cobwebs, the Capitals player solo’s his efforts by quickly moving down to the left side to gain space and time for a shot. Rocketing the puck straight pass the goalies legs for a Capitals equalizer.

Seventh Goal (Blue Jackets)- 4-3 for the Blue Jackets favour and this one well timed. Columbus in puck possession straight into Capitals space  and moving on the right side of the ice for a solo strike. The attempt fails but bounces enough straight to a Blue Jacket Player to score the follow up.

Eighth Goal (Capitals) – This goal is layered for simple measures, puck possession lying in the left side of the ice before being passed right forwards for a pin pong connection goal for another equalizer for Washington.

Ninth Goal (Capitals) – Heart breaker in overtime for the Blue Jackets, straight up build up in Columbus ice space. Player with the puck passes forward for a player to slingshot the puck into the net for winner.

One of many mad score lines tonight, Washington breaking the Blue Jackets at the end. What I classic game of Ice Hockey, highly entertained in this down plus having the amount of times being back and fourth. Blue Jackets will have to consolidate a overtime losing point while Washington have the lot in a match which turned into a thriller despite having a 2 early goal advantage.

Florida Panthers Vs. Philadelphia Flyers (2-1 via shootout)

First Goal (Panthers) – After a denied goal via a high stick foul, the panthers would work up a tight goal that slide in from the right side of the Flyers goalie. Panthers attacker while being pressured from Flyers player for puck possession, approaching with intent and close to the goalie had a harder task in watching the puck and the two player coming towards him. After a discussion the goal was given by referees in charge.

Second Goal (Flyers) – four minutes into the second period, Flyers worked up an equalizer for 1-1. Flyers build a possession being the Panthers net before cleanly passing to a awaiting Flyers player to finish the shot despite most of the squad being around the net but speed did the job in this score.

Overtime – Nothing separated the two teams during overtime but only comment that Flyers had the best chance to win it with a minutes and a half left. Working up into position, the Flyers player managed to keep a seconds time and space for a one on one shot but to be denied by the Panthers goalie. Overtime would follow.

Shootout (Panthers win 2-1) – Florida took the lead in the shootout but nothing more followed for until the 11th attempt, the Flyers would level on the 6th try. It would then move to sudden death, it would go to Florida on the 11th attempt for a goal while the heavy of a win was on the panthers goalie, gaining a simple save get the hard gained win away from home and second straight shootout win for the Panthers.

Overall this match was dragged on to the end, The result helps Florida move a step closer to Toronto who lose on the same evening but much point to till gain before thinking over taking the Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference and the Wildcard Places as well. Boston are still very present of where only a point separates in both Wild Card and Eastern conferences. While on the Flyers agenda, its isn’t empty handed after a brave performance, having 4 wins shy of overtaking their losing record position of 11 wins and 14 loses, this overtime lose adds a 6th OT record on them. Flyers take on a Canadian opponents of Toronto and Winnipeg this weekend coming while Florida try to follow up their win against Pittsburgh on Saturday only.

Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Carolina Hurricanes (1-4): Maple Leafs entered this game with a 6 game winning run while it was the total opposite for the Hurricanes carrying a 6 straight loses.

First Goal (Hurricanes) – 8 minutes from quarter completion and a number of times, Carolina take the lead via a tight pass from the left of Toronto’s net. Puck was not stopped by the Leafs defender but instead headed straight to a waiting Can’s player to connect the puck to the back of the net. From Carolina’s early efforts, the goal was coming.

Second Goal (Hurricanes) – The Maple Leafs would be punished again in 2 minutes from the re-start, attacking on the left; the Hurricans charged quickly with the right player waiting. Maple Leafs defence left too much space and time before left side player would pass to the right. Like pin pong, it was more straight forward goal for Carolina. Maple Leafs ripped up in this Goal.

Third Goal (Maple Leafs) – Second period, Maple Leafs enter with intent, forcing the Hurricanes Goalie to make 7 saves and making the defence work to build up a third goal. Maples determined not to let go a 6 game winning run, finally left side at distance of the Hurricanes net, with a number of players fighting to defend and gain the puck on both fronts. Player with puck on the right side executes a heavyweight shot, like a bolt of lightening; the puck was in the “Net”. 2-1, game on, Maple leafs in with a comeback and test of a character for Carolina.

Fourth Goal (Hurricanes) – Third period, Hurricanes have a simple build in Maple Leafs territory, at distance on the right side. Gives a longshot towards the goalie and succeeds. Very powerful shot and a goal that was needed in Carolina’s favour, the Breathing room needed and getting back the two goal advantage.

Fifth Goal (Hurricanes) – Empty net goal which put the result in no doubt ending the Maple Leafs run and hopefully a start of a run for the Hurricanes.

Toronto’s defence had their work cut early on, with the goalie taking on a workload. Sadly the Maple will have to consolidate their first lose in 6 games, while the streak  has put Toronto on top of the “Wildcard” place in the Eastern Conference by 5 points clear of Florida Panthers. Its lose but I believe Toronto can pick themselves up but having the task of taking on the Blackhawks in Chicago Sunday!. In regards of Carolina, getting the Monkey off the back would be sometime when they take on this weekend’s fixtures with 2014 NHL final Runners up New York Rangers on Saturday and Sunday (Home and Away). Plus having a high score win and look comfortable in many areas of the match, time will tell if the Hurricanes can pick up and go from strength to strength but New York are in a stronger position where they are 4 places higher in the Metropolitan Division and 6 places higher in the Wild card hunt, it will be interesting week between the two whether New York can extend their position in the division or Carolina opening the Division up and getting points on the board, it has been a difficult first season half for the Can’s but the session is far from over.
